Korantemaa Larbi is a design studio specializing in African-inspired design products, and aimed at creating a niche for black and Afrocentric aesthetics in the international design market. With our range of products, which include upholstery textiles, wallcoverings and soft furnishings, the options for designers and consumers alike open up. FOUNDER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR
KORANTEMAA LARBI
Our founder and creative director brings over a decade of experience in Architecture and Interior Design to create furnishings and products that pay homage to her Ghanaian and African heritage, whilst offering a range of options to designers and consumers for both residential and commercial projects. Korantemaa Larbi is a licensed architect and has worked with award-winning design firms in both high-end residential architecture in the Hamptons, NY and in institutional and commercial architecture and interiors in New York City and Ghana. Having grown up and initially studying and practicing in Ghana, she values and upholds its beautiful traditions and draws on the cultural artefacts and symbolism, along with the high energy of the country's urban centers as inspiration. Fused with her international experience, a new contemporary African aesthetic is born from her work.

ARTISANS
OUR PROCESS
Our collections are inspired by our founder's Ghanaian heritage, debuting with collections inspired by the Kente cloth and Adinkra patterns. We do a thorough work of researching into color theories and their significance within the Ghanaian culture.
We take a tactile approach to our designs. Beginning with sketches, we use that as a research tool, delving into the structure and logic behind the cultural motifs we take inspiration from, before moving into the digital phase. Following a selection of patterns to further develop, we go through a rigorous process of sampling to select fabrics and correctly scale patterns.
Teamwork is an essential aspect of our work, collaborating with local and small businesses in the making of our products and brand. From the business sewing our cushions to the web designers and photographers, we recognize and emphasize that Creativity is not a solo effort and we celebrate the diverse hands bringing our vision to life.
